No matter which role you play in Overwatch, the ability to hit a target is paramount. It should be no surprise that the higher a player's rank, the better their aim, even if they play mainly support characters.
The good news for average players is, while natural ability and reflexes play a part, aim for the most part is something you can train. Most players in the top skill brackets have been playing FPS games at high levels for years.
Fortunately, there are ways for you to train your aim without having to tank your Quick Play MMR.
Check your mouse settings
Many casual FPS players don't realise the importance of playing at the right mouse settings. Experienced FPS players know that DPI and sensitivity play a large part in how well you aim. Set those settings too high, and you'll find it hard to land precise shots. Set them too low, and you might have problems turning quickly.
These settings are highly personalized, so the correct DPI and sensitivity for one player may not be right for you. Here's a quick video to help you figure out your optimal mouse settings.
If you'd like to know what mouse settings Overwatch pro players use, here's a handy listing.
Train with aiming games
There are two Flash game sites that FPS players commonly use to train their aim outside of their games, Aimbooster and Aim400kg. While you could certainly train within the game, using aim training sites allow you to specifically work on your reflexes and accuracy without having to split your attention between other gameplay components like movement and strategy.
Aim Booster is a Flash game site created to help FPS, RTS and MOBA players train their aim. There are different modes to practice precision, reaction, speed, sniping and so on. The games can also be customized so the practice targets spawn at set intervals in different sizes.
Aim400kg offers a range of game modes to train three specific skills: Accuracy, Reflex and Quickness. The games have less customization options than Aim Booster, although the UI makes the targets easier to configure.
Train with custom games
If you'd prefer to train your aim in an in-game setting, here's a handy method to train headshots with AI Anas in a custom game.
A quick summary of the custom game settings you should use:
1) Start a custom game on Skirmish mode.
2) Fill the opposing team with AI Anas
3) Turn on "Headshots Only"
Optional:
4) Turn up the damage modifier to 200% so your headshots will kill on hit.
5) Reduce cooldowns to 0% if you'd like to use or practice your abilities.
Train your aim for 10-30 minutes a day, and enjoy the extra kills!
